Portfolio

Putting my portfolio together to send off to Massey University in Wellington
(where hopefully I will be accepted!!)

Drawing 1 Class - First Semester of Freshman year:
I had always worked with graphite. It was good to experiment with charcoal. Now it's one of my favorite mediums to work in  (especially since you can get so messy and dirty!)

Retractive Drawing!

Drawing 2 Class - Second Semester of Freshman Year:

This picture was a 5 minute sketch done on newsprint. I always enjoy getting crazy and messy with sketches. It's always very freeing not to have to pay attention to the exact shape and neatness of the object. Quick sketches like this definitely allowed me to do that.

Painting 1 Class - First semester of Sophomore year: I had really only dabbled in painting before. Kinda struggled with the first picture (the candles...yikes)...

Yeah graphite! I can't draw, but I doodle with graphite, usually in class, to stay awake. This week it looked like I had leprosy or some kind of skin disease because it had turned a dark grey from where my hand had been sitting on the paper where I had already drawn.

I'm not an art critic, but I really like these. I'm always a fan of kinda-messy, not exactly perfect art, because I think it is synonymous with the human condition. Nothing will ever be perfect. Kind of like the difference between the pristine, shiny world of the Star Wars Prequels, versus the gritty, dirty environment of the Original Trilogy.

I have to agree with you though, a job where you get messy/dirty feels like the best jobs because you feel that you accomplished something. (A shout-out to Mike Rowe and the show Dirty Jobs!)

To sum it all up, I think all of these are fantastic!
